The much requested photos are now in hand! Rylee Locke and Jessica double dated with Ryan (?) and Amanda(?). All save Ryan had a good time. (It turns out that Amanda wasn't very attentive as a date and ditched Ryan at the dance.) Sad. Jessica and some other girl friends stepped in to lift his spirits though, and even danced a few times with him. After the dance ended, Rylee and Jessica paired up with Kaitlin Unsworth and Bill Pratt before returning home. Jessica had a lot of fun with Rylee, and definitely gives dating two thumbs up!

Second Grade (1st of 3) Science Project
Nathaniel did a great job presenting "How much air is in our lungs?" to his class. The other would-be scientists were either home ill, or unprepared and so he was able to take up all of science time allowing every classmate to test out their lung capacity. We had practiced the night before and the morning of, so he never needed my help at all - which freed me to snap photos!
2nd Grade Student of the Month
Nathan was voted as the best 2nd grader school-wide by all of the 2nd grade teachers!

Freitag, Oktober 10, 2008: Connor started the day out with our traditional birthday breakfast in bed [his choice: sliced strawberries and whipped cream-topped waffles and four store-bought croissants with a tall glass of OJ]. He received a phone call from Dad at the airport, birthday presents [Heroscape extension packs and a dragon "action" figure from his brothers], along with a container of mixed nuts that he needn't share but did; he went off to school for the fun of taking two tests [math and Spanish]; and was home again for the traditional "No chores for the B-day boy" easy life. As an added bonus for it being Friday, Connor also chose the "No homework for now" route. Normally, Ken and I would have taken him out for his Birthday dinner along with a friend, but Ken was still out on a business trip and that had to wait until Saturday night [Red Lobster with Jeffrey Crippen -- I again forgot the camera]. Thank you to everyone who remembered him on his birthday! [Connor: "The best thing about my birthday is that I'm now a teenager!"]
It doesn't make my "Most Embarrassing" list, but ...
Monday October 6th, while Ken was on his second week of business trips, I went out to my van to get my camera only to find I'd locked myself out of the house by going through the garage door which closes automatically. All of the windows to my house are locked, save one of the front windows. Not terrible-I can just move one of our front porch chairs over and climb in, right? Well, yes, but . . . there is a movie being filmed on our street. (No, I'm not making it up!) Indeed, the crew is sitting along our yard's front block and aiming the camera away from us to film the actress, Heather, as she jogs and then rests for a quick moment down the street past the Cannon's front yard. (Ah, goodie for me!) So I act like I meant to take these pictures :-) Honestly, what would you have done? I notice weeds that need to be pulled and a bike helmet that wasn't put away, etc. I casually open the window and move over the chair as if tidying up. I do a lot of things outside until the scene is shot and they move inside the Curtis' home to film the rest. I'd already reached through and set my camera inside and then glanced up and down the street to see only seven actors out in the Curtis' side yard smoking. Yes, two of them may be able to see me, but it is probably my best chance before everyone else comes back out - so I dart and launch myself through the mudroom window falling on my knees and causing some noise. I huddle down below the view of the window as still and silent as a cat watching a mouse for a few moments . . . and then I laugh and laugh at myself for the last hour before my children arrive home from school. I was in a great mood and nothing else could have made my mood change. I couldn't stop
laughing. I hope your day has a smile to it now on my behalf ;-D Here's some proof. I didn't dare take more. Actress, Heather, is tiny in her blue jogging suit but now you know.
He hated racing stick horses. [Ben: Beyond dumb -How old did they think we are?] Someone else took off with his hand-dipped candle and he couldn't find anything in the general store that was worthy enough to part with his money. But hey, he learned about Utah history in a hands on way and I thought that was great.

Canning
As some of you know, I went to my ward's annual Relief Society's Service Auction and filled out two coupons to help sisters with their canning. I first helped Tauna Hill can peach slices, and then helped Debbie Swenson can her salsa. I was invited to bring ingredients and jars, etc. so I could come home with some of the salsa. [How nice!] It was a lot of fun to can with them and I'd do it again in a heart beat! There was just one "drawback": I caught the canning bug! My sisMisty Meads heard of an orchard that was giving away peaches for the picking and thus began a weeks worth of canning for me. All in all, I've canned 15 pints of salsa, 42 quarts of peach slices (I was able to cram in about 13 peaches into each-YUM!), and 24 quarts of peach pie filling. Not bad, huh? Does anyone want to come over this fall or winter for some pie? Just let me know when to expect you :-D!!

Last day as a Cub Scout Leader:
I have passed on! The roles of Cub Master of Pack 864 and Tiger Cub Den Leader [come Pack Night Volunteer-Cub Master when needed] of Pack 1577, are no longer my own. I have handed it all over to new leadership. I didn't think to take photos of the last Pack Night I ran, but here is a photo of the last Tiger Cub Den meeting I was in charge of. We went to learn about fish on an elective "go-see-it". Benjamin came along because he loves fish.
So, after five years of being in charge of Pack 864 and only two years of being Pack 1577's Tiger Cub leader, I will now be the Boy Scout Committee Chairperson of Troop 864 and have been invited to Wood Badge Leadership Training this coming summer. And I had foolishly packed away my uniform the day after my last Pack Night! (Men look great in these uniforms, but there's nothing flattering about them on women -in my opinion.) Jessica, Connor, and the boys all did a jig in the living room when they heard the news, and they all looked crestfallen when, after about a week, I was called to keep the troop running smoothly. (I'm even over Ken in his Boy Scout calling! I haven't yet figured out why that makes me smile each time I . . .) Well, anyway, out of the pan and into the fire, right?
